Caravan Of Cars To Pass Through Bergen County This Weekend, Raising Awareness Of ICE

An "upbeat, boisterous" car parade in North Jersey will raise awareness about Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's recent actions.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Protests have been held in recent weeks against actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, such as mistakenly detaining U.S. citizens and arresting people at their immigration hearings, in front of their children.

The Visibility Brigade Movement, a national activist group that holds rallies and posts signs on bridges to get their message out, plans to raise awareness about ICE with a peaceful protest this weekend. The caravan will pass through Bergen County.

"The Visibility Brigade will launch its first Crush ICE Caravan in New Jersey, an upbeat, boisterous car parade designed to raise awareness of the growing threat of ICE and mobilize local communities," said a release. "Roughly 20–50 decorated cars will display bold messaging and QR codes that link to actions individuals can take to protect themselves and their neighbors."

The group noted, "ICE has expanded into a powerful enforcement arm, operating with secrecy and fear. Congress recently allocated $170 billion to DHS, fueling detention camps and checkpoints nationwide, including in New Jersey. The Crush ICE Caravan aims to sound the alarm, build local infrastructure to resist ICE actions, and inspire communities across the country to replicate the model."

The group now has 270 chapters across the country, they say.
