First performed in Athens, Greece in 411 B.C., the satire follows one woman’s mission to unite all women to end the Peloponnesian War by withholding sex from their lovers – a strategy that ignites a battle between the sexes. Directed by Peter A. Campbell, Ph.D., Bergenstages will perform Carolyn Balducci’s 1991 adaptation of Lysistrata set in a modern world of palm trees and pool toys. Please note, the performance includes adult language and situations; attendee discretion is advised.
Performances take place on Friday, February 21; Saturday, February 22; Thursday, February 27; Friday, February 28; and Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Matinee performances take place on Saturday, February 22 and Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. Audiences are invited to attend a special post-show audience talk-back immediately following the February 27 performance. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $12 for seniors (ages 65+) and $5 for all students. For seats, visit tickets.bergen.edu or call (201) 447-7428.
