Bergen County Earthquake Aftermath: Residents Respond To Tremors
After a minor earthquake shook Bergen County on Friday, officials gave updates and residents joked. Now they're watching for aftershocks.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — After a 2.4 magnitude earthquake shook Bergen County on Friday afternoon, towns in the area reported no damage, and residents shared their experiences.
"There is no damage reported in Rochelle Park," said that town, a few hours after the 1:02 p.m. quake. "Please note this is considered a minor event."

One resident said the tremors "sounded like a car hit the house."
And one wag wrote, "Here I thought somebody had a Taco Bell moment in the Garden State Plaza restroom."

The USGS posted the quake on their map here, inviting residents to share their experiences for a "community intensity map."
Aftershocks from an earthquake can be felt for days and weeks afterward, and are sometimes forecast by the USGS here.
The quake is one of several felt in North Jersey in the past nine months. Much of North Jersey felt a 4.8 earthquake last April 5, also on a Friday.
