Bergen County Man Killed In Delaware Crash: Police
The Subaru Outback the man was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer, police said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An Old Tappan man was killed Friday after he crashed into a tractor-trailer in Delaware, Delaware State Police said.
John R. Acken, 79, of Old Tappan was driving in Harbeson, Delaware when the Subaru Outback he was driving did not stop at a stop sign and was hit by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Beaver Dam and Indian Mission roads, Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe confirmed.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. and trapped Acken and a female passenger in the SUV, Jaffe said. Both were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred.

Both the tractor-trailer and the SUV approached the intersection at the same time, and the tractor-trailer was not required to stop, police said.
Acken was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger was taken to another hospital in "critical condition," police said.

The 33-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. He was treated and released.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
