Emergency Room To Move Out Of Ridgewood When Bergen County's New Hospital Opens Sunday

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Starting Sunday, New Jersey is getting is first entirely new acute care hospital building since 2019.

"The [new] Valley Hospital located in Paramus will officially open its Emergency Department at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April
14," said a spokesperson this week. "From 6 a.m. forward, this location will be Valley Health System’s sole, inpatient hospital facility. This time is subject to change if any unexpected occurrences happen the morning of April 14."

The existing Valley Hospital in Ridgewood will transform into an outpatient space, and will keep some services.

"Valley’s campus on North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood will transform from an inpatient facility to a thriving outpatient healthcare destination, with a variety of services designed to offer convenient care for our community," noted a release last month.

The Ridgewood location will remain open for services including imaging, the breast center, ostomy services, endoscopy, and lab work. However, acute care and emergency services will move to the Paramus location.

The Ridgewood police reminded their residents on Tuesday, "Valley Hospital in Ridgewood will be closing on Sunday. Please be aware that the ER in Paramus will be opening Sunday morning."

Hospital dignitaries and local officials hosted a ribbon cutting last month.

"[The] facility will serve as the anchor to Valley’s new 40-acre health and wellness campus designed to unite acute patient care with a range of outpatient services," said a spokesperson.

Besides patient care, visitors can glimpse a piece of local history.

"The famed mural from Alexander’s department store, a roadside landmark dismantled in Paramus 25 years ago, is making a homecoming at The Valley Hospital’s new campus," says the website for the new hospital.

The hospital's address is 4 Valley Health Plaza, Paramus, but for GPS, travelers should use 650 Winters Ave.

Valley Health System is a regional healthcare system based in Ridgewood.
