NEW MILFORD, NJ – A 34-year-old New Milford man faces charges after authorities say he assaulted a 3-month-old infant while taking care of the baby.

Justin Cerciello's arrest on Wednesday stems from an investigation launched after a baby was brought into Holy Name Medical Center on Jan. 12 that was suffering from bruising, blood in its eyes and saliva, as well as a brain bleed, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

The Division of Child Protection and Permanency notified the prosecutor’s office regarding the infant, who was transferred to Hackensack University Medical Center for further evaluation, the prosecutor's office said. There, doctors determined the baby had multiple rib fractures in various stages of healing, according to the prosecutor's office.
