UPDATED: Bicyclist Struck on S. Maple and Spring Ave.

Police say bicyclist ran red light; injuries were not life threatening.

Update: Injured bicyclist was released from hospital last night.

Police confirmed that woman riding a bicycle on Spring Avenue and S. Maple was struck by a motor vehicle at roughly 4:30 p.m., and was taken away by EMS.

According to police, the vehicle, a sedan, was driving west on Spring Avenue when the bike rider, heading north, was struck. Sgt. Brian Pullman confirmed that the driver is not considered to be at fault–the bicyclist ran the red light.

According to Pullman, injuries were not life-threatening for the cyclist, and she was released from the hospital on Tuesday evening.

The bicyclist was also issued a summons for failing to obey a traffic signal and police would like to remind citizens that bicyclists have to follow the same rules of the road as drivers.
