Beloved Ridgewood Doctor, Booster Club Dad, Dies At 46

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A Ridgewood pediatrics specialist and "The Dads' Night Band" member who raised funds for local schools passed away last week after a battle with cancer, sources said.

Sheeraz "Doc" Iqbal, a husband and father of two, had more than 20 years of experience in the medical field. He died last week at age 46, according to a GoFundMe page.

Iqbal, his friends said of him, impressed others not only in his professional practice, but also in other sectors of his life, including on stage.

Because of Iqbal, in fact, the Dads' Night Band, which supports Somerville and Hawes Elementary Schools, was able to do songs that members would not have dreamed of doing otherwise, the volunteer group said in a social media post.

"Every once in a while someone arrives and reinvents the band completely," the organization said of Iqbal, whose ability get fans on their feet made him a DNB legend. "We celebrate your life, and we thank you for your contributions to our band and our community."

Aside from Iqbal's talents, his friend and fellow band member Jeffrey Creegan said, he is also caring and gave of himself to others.

"It is sad he was taken so soon, but we should all rejoice in the fact that he was here among us," Creegan said in a social media post. "(Iqbal) is simply one of the best humans to have ever graced us with his presence."
