FAIR LAWN, NJ - A man was sent to the hospital Sunday night after being struck in the head with a golf club following a road rage incident in Fair Lawn, according to police.
A Clifton couple, Sylwia Czerwinska, 42, and Mariusz Czerwinski, 44, were both charged following the attack, which Sgt. Brian Metzler said occurred around 7 p.m. on River Road.
Officers were dispatched on a report of a fight in front of the Walgreens Pharmacy on River Road, where they found three people involved in a fight, he said.

According to Metzler, Czerwinski was driving with his wife when he passed and then stopped his van in front of a Ford Focus operated by a 23-year-old from Hawthorne. Both drivers got out of their cars and "after words were exchanged," Czerwinski returned to his van, retrieved a golf club and struck the Hawthorne man in the head, Metzler said.
The Hawthorne man "then jumped on Czerwinski in the roadway," the sergeant said. "Czerwinska retrieved the same golf club that had been dropped during the fight and proceeded to strike the victim multiple times with the club until police arrived."

The Hawthorne man was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson for treatment of head injuries, which Metzler said "are not believed to be life threatening."
Czerwinski was also transported to the hospital, Metzler said. Czerwinski and Czerwinska both face charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the sergeant said.
The incident remains under investigation, according to police.
