Indefinite Delay for Controversial Cell Tower Application

T-Mobile had visions of a 125-foot tower near the Ho-Ho-Kus border in Ridgewood.

Concerned residents living near the Ho-Ho-Kus border can breathe a sigh of relief – the T-Mobile application to erect a 125-plus foot cell tower on the corner of First Street and Barnett Place has been delayed indefinitely.

The news comes from Zoning Board Secretary Tony Merlino, who in an e-mail to residents said, the application is "Postponed indefinitely at this point. The applicant will be required to send new notices to everyone should they decide to continue with their application."

Residents have fought T-Mobile's effort since it was first introduced well over a year ago at the zoning board. The telecom giant had experts testify that there was a lack of reliable coverage in the area and further said they had federal law on their side.

Residents, troubled with a possible loss in property values, claimed there could also be safety issues and further argued that improvement of coverage would be minimal.
