Crime Falls Considerably in Glen Rock

Overall crime in Glen Rock reached its lowest level in several years, according to recently released state police data. 

The 71 overall incidents reported in 2011 was down from 107 in 2010, the state Uniform Crime Report showed. It's the lowest recorded figure since 2007, where 62 incidents were documented.

The data, compiled and reported by the NJ State Police, tracked reports of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft, known as "index crimes."

Glen Rock residents will be pleased to know violent crime was non-existent in 2011. There were five incidents in 2010, three aggravated assaults and two robberies.

Non-violent crime also fell in Glen Rock over the previous year from 102 incidents to 71.

Countywide, the report showed Bergen County saw an increase in burglary last year. The trend held in Glen Rock, which saw five more burglaries (14) over 2010. 

Larceny declined significantly, however, plumetting from 93 to 54 in 2011. There were no arsons reported last year and one in 2010.

Overall crime per 1,000 persons fell from 8.9 to 7.7. It also bucked the trend across New Jersey.

There were 217,073 reported crimes in New Jersey in 2011. . 

According to the report, there was a crime committed once every 2 minutes and 25 seconds in 2011, and males accounted for 69 percent of arrests.
