Death Of Bergen County Sheriff's Officer Leaves Officials 'Heartbroken'

A young sergeant with the Bergen County Sheriff's Office died on Monday, officials said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A young sergeant with the Bergen County Sheriff's Office died over the weekend, leaving local officials "heartbroken."

Sgt. Michael Ramos "was an integral part of the County Park’s special events team responsible for overseeing several of our large-scale events," County Executive Jim Tedesco wrote on Tuesday.

"Michael was a dedicated, hardworking, and bright young man who came to work every day with enthusiasm and a charmingly dry wit that rubbed off on his colleagues," he said.

The Sheriff's Office said, "Sergeant Ramos dedicated his life to serving and protecting the people of Bergen County with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and a spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. His dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on our office and the community he so faithfully served."

Several other law enforcement agencies expressed their condolences.

Officials did not release a cause of death.

On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office wrote a new post: "You are never alone. At the Sheriff’s Office, we stand with those who are struggling and remind you that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It’s okay to not be okay, and there is always someone ready to listen and support you. Together, we can break the stigma around mental health. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out. Your life matters, and there is hope. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 988."

Tedesco wrote, "On behalf of the County of Bergen and the Bergen County Parks System, we extend our deepest condolences to the Ramos family, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the entire law enforcement community during this difficult time."
