Disbarred Glen Rock Lawyer Stole $37K From Client: Proseuctor

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A disbarred borough lawyer is accused of stealing $37,000 from a client, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced Friday.

William T. McCue, 72, a disbarred lawyer and an art dealer, was charged with theft, forgery, and unauthorized practice of law.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Financial Crimes Unit received a complaint from a victim who hired McCue to represent him in an estate settlement, Calo said. The victim claimed that he paid McCue $15,500 in legal professional fees for the estate work. He later found out that McCue had been disbarred from practicing law.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Glen Rock Police Department showed that McCue deposited the $15,500 n into his personal bank account and "used them for his purposes," Calo said.

McCue also forged the victim's signature on several checks worth $21,500, Calo said.

The New Jersey Supreme Court disbarred McCue from practicing law in 1998.

McCue is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court March 13.
