VIDEO: Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Blaze Above Row of Restaurants
No injuries were reported at the two-alarm fire on S. Broad Street.
Firefighters discovered a blaze behind the wall of a second floor apartment at 26 South Broad Street, a mere story above diners in the Central Business District on Thursday night.
Ridgewood Fire Department Lt. Chris Duflocq reported at the scene that the department was called on report of smoke at 22 South Broad shortly before 8:30 p.m., but quickly found that the fire was next door.
No one was injured and the building was fully evacuated, Dufloq said as diners and shoppers pointed to the flurry of firefighters hustling in and out of the building. The store beneath the site of the blaze––was closed at the time and the ladder was extended to the top of the building.

The fire, which Dufloq said was "fairly small," is still under investigation but the leuitenant said the building is quite old, the wood is dry and it could be electrical. "There are a lot of wires back there," he said, adding that it's still undetermined.
The restaurants nearby remained open throughout the course of the incident. Firefighters were still at the scene by 9:45 p.m.
