“This was in recognition of rescuing an injured motorist who was trapped inside a wrecked vehicle next to a fully involved vehicle fire following a serious motor vehicle accident. The officers engaged in this rescue under perilous conditions with complete disregard for their personal safety,” Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
Sgt. Mike Trover, Officer James Donnelly and Officer Sarah Orsita each earned a Distinguished Service Award.

The chief said the recognition was given for how they handled “an armed emotionally disturbed individual who confronted the officers with a weapon, attempting to commit ‘suicide by cop.’”
“At the risk of their own personal safety the officers were able to deploy less than lethal force and subdue the individual who was transported to a psychiatric facility for care. No injury to the individual involved or the officers occurred,” Ackermann said.
Since 1987, the 200 Club of Bergen County has honored more than 500 individuals. For more information about the organization, click here.
