Glen Rock Democrats Looking to Oust Republican Incumbents
Sean Brennan and Amy Martin running for borough council in the fall.
A pair of Glen Rock Democrats announced plans to take on Republican council incumbents Mary Jane Surrago and Michael O'Hagan Friday night at Greek Taverna.
Sean Brennan, a 13-year Glen Rock resident and father of two, and Amy Martin, active in the HSAs with three kids, say they're looking to breathe new life into a borough council comprised entirely of Republicans.
“Glen Rock is full of creative, talented and caring people who don’t currently have a voice on the Council," Brennan said in a news release. "Amy and I want to be an advocate for their ideas about how we can work together to build a better community. That’s why we’ve chosen to run for Borough Council. Let’s bring out the best that we know is here.”

They were joined at Greek Taverna by nearly 50 people, including Senator Bob Gordon (D-38), Congressional candidate Andy Maguire and Glen Rock Municipal Chair Mark McCullough.
“Sean and I feel strongly that we are ready to reinvigorate a stagnant and complacent borough council,” said Martin, an actress and director. “I want to help make Glen Rock an example for all of Bergen County, the kind of place where other communities say, ‘We should try what they’re doing in Glen Rock.’”

Maguire, who's expected to take a run at Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5th), said the Glen Rock Democrats are "superb candidates" who will represent the interests of families.
“Amy and Sean are the energetic young leaders Glen Rock has been waiting for,” he said. “Families who represent the intelligence and civic mindedness needed so desperately in local government must take a leadership role here in Glen Rock.”
Neither Martin or Brennan responded to requests for comment.
Their presumptive Republican opponents, Surrago and O'Hagan, were both elected by wide margins in 2007. This will be their third contest. The Republican primary is scheduled for June.
