Glen Rock Police Officer Recognized As 'Action Hero.' See Why

A Glen Rock police officer was recognized as a "Community Action Hero."

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Bergen County group has recognized a Glen Rock police officer for his "unique work bridging law enforcement and mental health."

Bergen County Community Chest recognized Matt Stanislao as a Community Action Hero on Sept 26.

The Police Department said they were proud of him.

"As a police officer, juvenile officer, licensed social worker, and filmmaker, Police Officer Stanislao creates public service announcements featuring local professionals to raise awareness of Bergen County’s resources," they said.

He also serves as president of the Juvenile Officer’s Association and chair of the County Mental Health Board, they said.

"Matt is deeply committed to volunteerism, outreach, and honoring those who serve," they said.

Police departments have studied and debated how they handle mental health crises, in which they often come along with a social worker when someone is in need of help. The state has been working on solutions to prevent situations from escalating.
