
A solemn ceremony in Van Neste Square Sunday evening will honor the sacrifices of those who have lost children in combat.
Gold Star Mothers Day, a national commemoration, has been held the last Sunday of September each year since 1936, when it was established by a congressional resolution.
A short ceremony cosponsored by American Legion Post 53 will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, followed by the lighting of luminaries throughout the park.
Village officials are encouraging residents throughout Ridgewood to take part in the commemoration, even if they can't make it to the park, by lighting candles in their own neighborhoods to honor the sacrifices of Gold Star Mothers.
