GR Recycling Center to be Closed for Two Days in October

Closure due to needed paving and re-striping. Borough auxiliary police will also be addressing the existing traffic issues Friday and Saturday night.

The Glen Rock Recycling Center will be closing for two days while workers stripe and re-pave the new parking lot, the borough announced Thursday.

The center will close from Tuesday, Oct. 2 through Thursday, Oct. 4. When re-opened on Thursday, the center will be relocated to the compost area for the remainder of that week, the borough said.

The Recycling Center has been under renovation since the summer to modernize the facility, but also to add a number of parking spaces for residents at the pool and Faber Field.

The $700,000 upgrade will boost the parking total to 128 spots, with 18 dedicated to the recycling center.

Residents have opined in recent weeks that the temporary spaces are too narrow for vehicles and some people create their own spots entirely, causing safety issues.

The Glen Rock Auxilary Police will be there Friday and Saturday starting at 6 p.m. to help address the issues, public safety chair and councilman Michael O'Hagan said Monday at the council work session.

"It won't be much longer," the councilman remarked. "Once done, it will really help with the flow."

All spots will be re-striped to regulation standard once the project is complete, Mayor John van Keuran previously told Patch.
