Graphic Pic Sent To Child, Car Stuck On Tracks: Glen Rock Blotter

GLEN ROCK, NJ - Police responded to 242 calls between Jan. 13 and 19, including a report of a man sending a graphic picture to a child online and a vehicle stuck on train tracks.

01-13-2020 - Vehicle stuck on tracks

9:25 PM – Patrols were dispatched to assist the NJ Transit Police with a vehicle blocking the Harristown Road rail road tracks. The driver, a 65-year-old Ringwood man, claimed that he mistook the railroad tracks for a street and became disabled when his vehicle mounted the tracks. The vehicle was removed from tracks by a tow truck and the Transit Police issued a summons to the driver.

01-15-2020 - Residents attempt to extinguish fire

2:13 PM – Patrols responded along with the Glen Rock Fire Department to Somerset Court on a reported outside fire. Upon arrival they found several residents attempting to control the fire with a garden hose. It was determined that the origin of the fire was building materials left outside by a contractor working on a home at 18 Somerset. The fire department was able to fully extinguish the fire which was deemed accidental. The homeowner was notified.

01-15-2020 - Man sends child graphic picture via Instagram

8:03 PM – A Glen Rock woman reported that her young daughter had communicated on-line with what she believed was an adult male via Instagram. During this exchange the unknown subject had sent the child a graphic photo. An investigation by Glen Rock Detectives determined that the subject was communicating with the child from outside of the United States and a further criminal investigation would not be possible. The parents were advised of the various actions they may take to protect their child from this type of on-line exploitation.

Police Chief Glen Ackermann said, "Communication is key in protecting children from online exploitation. One way to keep children safer is to supervise their online activities or limit their access to sites that can facilitate online interaction with people they don’t know and trust in real life. If you allow your children access to these sites, you should discuss Internet safety often. Monitor children’s Internet use: ask them what sites they visit and to show you any profiles they may have posted online."

01-16-2020 - Lost Purse

2:29 PM – An Elmwood Park woman reported the loss of her purse containing cash, a TD Bank check book and earrings. The purse is described as a small cross body bag. The woman had traveled from her place of employment in Elmwood Park to the Rock Road Central Business District where she believed that she had left the purse in her vehicle. Her vehicle was reportedly locked and there were no signs of forced entry reported.

01-19-2020 - License plate stolen from car

2:49 PM – A resident on the 500 block of Rock Road reported the theft of a license plate from their vehicle. The theft allegedly occurred 7 days prior while the vehicle was parked in front of the resident’s home.
