GRHS Baseball Field on Target for May 1

Date still "highly dependent" on good weather in next few weeks, school official says.

A spell of inclement weather has pushed back the expected opening date of the remodeled Glen Rock High School baseball field, but school officials believe May 1 is a realistic target date.

"I must stress that the May 1st completion date is highly dependent on satisfactory weather condition in the weeks ahead," Business Administrator Michael Rinderknecht told Patch.

Upgrades to the baseball field – budgeted separately from the other athletic field projects at the high school – include new sod, protective fences, field re-grading, dugouts, a sprinkler system.

According to Rinderknecht, the scoreboard is already up and running. Fencing work will begin Wednesday and should be complete by the end of the week. The warning track has mostly been cut out, and sand/clay layering of the infield is expected to begin on Thursday. The field has to be dry for that process to take place. Once that work has been completed, the field will be box leveled.

Sod is expected to be installed by April 15, assuming the weather holds up. Heads should also be installed to the new sprinkler system within the next few weeks.

"Overtime will continue as long as weather permits on an as needed basis to expedite the project schedule," Rinderknecht said.

The board voted to , drawing from its capital fund. To allow the grass sod on the baseball field to stabilize, soccer, football and lacrosse will not be permitted to use the baseball field in 2013.
