Hawthorne Man Charged In Glen Rock Library Bomb Threat

Police say the man emailed a threat to the library staff Wednesday afternoon, claiming the building was about to blow up.

GLEN ROCK, NJ – A 33-year-old Hawthorne man faces charges after police say he emailed a threat to the Glen Rock Library staff Wednesday afternoon indicating a bomb was about to go off in the building.

Carlos R. Pabon, of Hawthorne, was arrested several hours later at Ridgewood Bus Terminal and charged with making terroristic threats and creating a false public alarm, according to Police Chief Dean Ackermann.

Around 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the library on a report that the staff received a bomb threat, Ackermann said.

Prior to police arrival, patrons had left the library and the staff put the building into lockdown, Ackermann said. After a sweep of the building by police and a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, no explosives were detected nor any other item of a suspicious nature, the chief said.

The building was released from lockdown in just under an hour, according to the chief.

Detective Sgt. James Calaski and Det. Lucas Doney, along with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, were able to trace the email to Pabon, according to Ackermann.

After Pabon was arrested in Ridgewood, police determined he “did not possess the means to carry out the threat,” the chief also said.

He was released on his own recognizance pending an Oct. 25 Superior Court appearance.
