MAHWAH, NJ — Before 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, the 22-story Sheraton Crossroads Hotel, a landmark near the tip of New Jersey since 1987, was demolished.

A horn was followed by a rapid series of booms as the iconic structure — at the crossroads of Routes 17, 287, and 202 — came tumbling down. Dynamite had been placed in 1,700 holes in the structure.

The town of Mahwah received more than 1,900 comments on video they posted to their webpage.

"The town should have fought to keep something so iconic," said another.

"Heard it in the middle of Ramsey," said another commenter.

Over the years, the hotel was the site of weddings, dances, and other events. It finally closed its doors in December 2023. The developers planned to build two warehouses on the site, but say they are now considering other light industrial uses. READ MORE: Readers React To Sheraton Crossroads Closing

Four Videos, Four Angles

Mahwah Fire Department Rescue 1 posted on their page, "Early this morning, Engine 115 with a full crew stood by to watch the 37-year history of the Sheraton Hotel come to an end. Over the years, we have responded to countless incidents ranging from alarms, fires, elevator rescues, and cars off the parking garage. Safe to say, this will be 115’s last response to the Hi-Rise!!"

The firefighters posted this video of the hotel's implosion.
