Crime Investigator Course For Kids To Be Held In Ridgewood
Ridgewood Parks and Recreation is offering a S.T.E.M. Crime Scene Investigation education class next week for children grades 7 through 12.
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — If your child has ever wanted to learn how forensic science is used to solve crimes, the S.T.E.M Crime Scene Investigation Education Class next week in Ridgewood might offer the learning experience they are looking for.
From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Ridgewood Parks and Recreation is offering children in grades 7 through 12 a CSI class that will include a presentation, labs and exercises all overseen by current or former law enforcement detectives, an event flyer said.
During the seven-hour class, the following topics will be covered:

- Make a magnifying glass
- Take, identify and collect fingerprints
- Create and examine blood splatter patterns
- Identify an unknown powder
- Chromatography
- Time-of-death exercises, casting footprints and discussing missing persons
To be held at the Community Center at Village Hall at 131 North Maple Avenue, the class is $115 for residents and $130 for non-residents.
Participants are encouraged to bring a nut-free bag lunch and drink, and to dress appropriately for the weather.
