Junior Women Holding Charity Garage Sale to Fix Up Club House

The juniors' garage sale on March 25, 26 will go toward repainting the ballroom, organizers say.

Have an old chair you're not sure what to do with? A couch just hangin' out? Bring it to the The Junior Woman's Club of Ridgewood to help preserve a piece of Ridgewood history.

President of the Juniors, Andrea Falco, said the JWC generally raises money for charity, but this effort is to help fix up its home, the Dutch Colonial Woman's Club building on the corner of W. Ridgewood Ave.

One of the better known buildings in Ridgewood, the site of hundreds of weddings and events was constructed and designed by noted New York architect George Koyl.

"With the down turn in the economy, rentals have diminished," Falco said. "With less rentals, we have less money for needed renovations, without renovations, we will have no rentals. We are hoping to raise money to get our gracious ballroom painted."

The garage sale will be held in the ballroom, although the JWC hasn't yet determined where the furniture will go. The junior ladies will be doing some pickups on March 18 and 19 and donations can be made through March, organizers say.

Additionally, the (senior) Woman's Club of Ridgewood will be helping during the sale with homemade soups and baked goods for sale, Falco said.

While the JWC hasn't tried the garage sale for its own club house fixing, the garage sale concept is not new.

"Two years ago I organized a community-wide garage sale to raise money for medical bills for a family in Ridgewood," which was having a hard time, Falco reported.

"I am hoping this one will also be a success."
