Koo's Kicks were Dead On in All-Star Classic

Ridgewood kicker does his job, rain or shine.

Ridgewood had just one representative at the 35th annual North South Football Classic, but the Maroons top-rated kicker unquestionably delivered for the school on Monday night.

"It was a great honor to represent Ridgewood," said Younghoe Koo, the Georgia Southern-bound student athlete. "We did very well in this game and I did my part. The coaches at Ridgewood have helped me out a lot and I feel like I am kind of giving back to them."

The North beat the South 54-8. That was the biggest margin of victory in the history of the Classic.

Koo, a senior at Ridgewood High School, did his school proud in New Jersey's largest all-star football game. On the first possession of the game, Brett Blank, kicker of the South, yanked a short field goal attempt wide left; it never had a shot.

Koo was only asked to kick one field goal, a 28-yarder into a stiff wind in the first quarter. He nailed it. In fact, the ball boy who was waiting to catch Koo's kick 20 yards behind the uprights could only stand and stare as the ball soared over his head, over the fencing and out of the stadium.

Koo also nailed each of the five extra points he attempted.

"Our offense was doing great so I had the opportunity to kick a field goal and a few extra points," said Koo. "This was really a great experience."

His work was relatively limited but didn't go unnoticed. After kicking his fifth extra point, he left the field to chants of "Koo."
