NJ Man Spit On Woman Who Plowed Into Anti-ICE Protestors With Her Car, Police Say
A man has been charged for spitting at 2 people during an anti-ICE demonstration on Saturday in North Jersey, including a female driver.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man has been charged with assault for spitting at two people during an otherwise peaceful protest in Fairview on Saturday — including a woman arrested for driving into the crowd, police said.

Giancarlo Pontecorvo, 26, of Ridgefield was charged with two counts of assault, said Fairview Deputy Police Chief John Pierotti.

According to police, on Saturday, "During a walk for a public demonstration, one of the participants knowingly approached two people not affiliated with the demonstration and spit in their faces."
The protest — held in Fairview, a Bergen County town near the border with Hudson County — was against the recent actions of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

'Got Into An Argument'
According to police, Pontecorvo at one point crossed the street from where the demonstration was taking place and began arguing with someone on a sidewalk near 6 Anderson Ave. During the argument, Pontecorvo spat in the victim's face and fled, police said.
Later, Pontecorvo was holding up traffic to let the demonstration cross, and he "got into an argument with a motorist ... During this altercation he again spit directly into the face of the female driver," police said.
Both incidents were captured on video surveillance and police were able to investigate and find out his identity. He was arrested at work without incident, police said.
As reported by Patch on Monday, a North Bergen woman was arrested on the weekend for allegedly driving her car into the protestors, injuring several.
Police said that after the confrontation between Pontecorvo and the driver, identified as Linda Roglen, 62, of North Bergen, participants started to surround her car. That was when she tried to drive through the intersection and struck multiple participants, police said.
Several individuals sustained minor injuries and one was taken to the hospital, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Roglen was charged with four criminal counts of assault by auto resulting in body injury, and several motor vehicle violations, The investigation is ongoing, police said.
Both Roglen and Pontecorvo have since been released to await further action, police confirmed.
