Man Killed In Glen Rock House Fire Identified

A man who died after being removed from a house fire in Glen Rock on Sunday has been identified.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A man killed in a house fire in Glen Rock on Sunday night has been identified by prosecutors.

Frederick Visser, 82, died of injures sustained in the fire on Birchwood Road Sunday, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that just before 9:30 p.m., police and firefighters headed to the site of the two-alarm fire. They "evacuated an unresponsive, adult male victim located on the first floor," prosecutors said.

First responders began CPR and then took Visser to Valley Hospital in critical condition. He died as a result of his injuries, they said.

Prosecutors said that an investigation by the Bergen County Arson Squad said the fire does not appear suspicious.

Earlier, Glen Rock Fire Chief Thomas Jennings said the fire appeared to have started in the basement.

"The fire was dispatched as an outside fire with possible explosion," he said Monday.
