A man used nude photos to coerce a woman he knew into having a sexual relationship with him, Bergen County prosecutors allege.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man used nude photos and eight different phone numbers to sexually extort a Bergen County woman he knew, prosecutors said Friday.

Robert J. Meserve III, 37, of Plymouth, Mass. was arrested Wednesday by U.S. marshals and charged with sexual extortion, terroristic threats, stalking, and distribution of child sexual abuse material, said the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

An investigation "revealed that the messages were designed to coerce the victim into a sexual relationship by threatening to expose explicit photos and/or videos," prosecutors said.

Detectives traced the activity to Meserve, prosecutors said.

Investigators also determined that in January 2025, he used the internet to share digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent children, prosecutors said.

On Wednesday, the marshals, along with Massachusetts State Police and detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, apprehended Meserve and executed a search warrant at his home in Plymouth.

He was charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography, third-degree sexual extortion, fourth-degree terroristic threats, and fourth-degree stalking.

He was taken to the Plymouth County Correctional Facility to await extradition to Bergen County, prosecutors said.
