North Bergen Man Hit 77-Year-Old Woman With Car In Bergen County, Left Scene: Prosecutors

A man was arrested after a 77-year-old pedestrian was found unconscious near an intersection in Bergen County, prosecutors said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — After a 77-year-old woman was found unsconscious by the side of a Bergen County highway in the middle of the night, a man has been charged with hitting her with his car and leaving the scene, prosecutors said.

Osmary Jimenez-Luna, 34, of North Bergen was charged Monday with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, and other offenses, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that last Thursday, just after 4:30 a.m., the Leonia Police Department responded to Grand Avenue, near the intersection with Ames Avenue, after an unconscious pedestrian was found along the side of the road.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the woman had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

She was taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Detectives determined that the woman was trying to cross Grand Avenue, near the intersection with Ames Avenue, when she was struck by a red vehicle that fled the scene.

Detectives identified the vehicle as a red 2012 Toyota Sienna and traced it to Jimenez-Luna.

He was charged Monday with leaving the scene, as well as fourth-degree endangering an injured victim and several related motor vehicle offenses.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
