Person Pretends To Be Glen Rock Town Worker To Steal Check: Police
Someone used email to try to get a paycheck from the town of Glen Rock, deposited into their bank account, police said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The borough of Glen Rock told police that someone tried to impersonate a town worker in order to have a paycheck deposited into their account, police said.
The payroll administrator for the town told police on Nov. 20 that "an unknown individual had attempted to impersonate a borough employee and change the direct deposit of their paycheck to a fraudulent bank account," according to Glen Rock police.
The person made the attempt via email, police said. But the payroll administrator "flagged" the transaction as fraudulent and it wasn't processed.
