Planning Board Delays Chair Appointments
New members sworn in at reorganization meeting.
Although Planning Board representatives were sworn in, member absences delayed most reorganization moves.
Mayor Keith Killion, Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh and member Nancy Bigos took the oath of office, but absences to other members prevented chairman appointments and committee assignments.
The newly seated mayor and councilwoman join the board, replacing former Mayor David Pfund and the late Councilwoman Anne Zusy. Bigos, who completed retired Fire Chief James Bombace's term, was sworn in for a full term.

Vice Chairman Albert Pucciarelli presided over the meeting in the absence of Chairman David Nicholson, who will be sworn in again as board member at its next meeting. The newly seated board decided against choosing its chairman and vice chairman with Nicholson absent.
Pucciarelli was appointed chairman pro tempore in the interim.

Former board member and newly appointed Deputy Mayor Tom Riche commended his former colleagues for their hard—and voluntary—work.
"It's been tough recently for everyone, and I wanted to thank everyone for the important work you all do," Riche said.
In June, the board approved a Master Plan amendment to the Valley Hospital. The decision occurred in a volatile atmosphere where an arrest was made.
During his third time as board member, Riche said he was particularly proud of the Site Plan Exemption Ordinance, which allows potential business owners to expedite the construction process for minor building changes.
"There's tough times in the downtown business section... I sat on that committee, and I know it's making a difference," Riche said. "The process shows businesses that Ridgewood is a place to go to."
Pucciarelli thanked Riche for his service.
"You were a thoughtful and energetic member of the board, and I'm sure you'll be an asset for the council. But you'll be missed here," he said.
Committee assignments and chairman elections will occur at the Planning Board's July 20 meeting.
