After police cars were set on fire in a Bergen County parking lot, the county is investigating, prosecutors say.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Several Hackensack police cars were burned in a "suspicious fire" in a Bergen County parking lot on Saturday night, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, county arson investigators, and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating the blaze in Hackensack, said Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer.
Angermeyer said Hackensack police and firefighters headed to the fire at 78 Trinity Place just after 8 p.m.

A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicles were unoccupied in the lot, which is used for overflow parking for the local police, Angermeyer said.
No injuries were reported, he said. No further information is available at this time.

Two assembly candidates, Marco Navarro and Andrew Meehan, posted on social media in response to this incident, "We are outraged by the deliberate and destructive act that occurred last night ... No injuries were reported, but the brazen nature of the act cannot be ignored. As your law-and-order champions, we unequivocally condemn this act of violence."
