Police Chase Man Through Ridgewood, Charge Him With DWI: Officials
Officers pursue a 23-year-old man, who was later charged with driving while intoxicated, in a Ridgewood chase, the police chief said.
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Police pursued a 23-year-old man who was later charged for driving under the influence in a chase through Ridgewood and into Paramus Thursday, Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said.
Officers first saw a damaged vehicle at 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Maple and Franklin Avenues, and thought there had been a crash. As police approached the scene and activated lights and siren, the driver, "in an unsafe manner," mounted the curb and refused to stop, Luthcke said.
As the vehicle continued into Paramus, officers broke off pursuit and put out information to surrounding towns. While in the borough, the driver hit two vehicles and crashed at HomeGoods; he then fled the scene.

Paramus police eventually caught the driver, arrested him and transferred custody to Ridgewood.
Mahmoud Ahmed, of East Orange, was charged with resisting arrest / eluding officer; possession, use or being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, or its analog; driving while intoxicated; and multiple other motor vehicle summonses, police said. He was transported to the Bergen County Jail.
