Underground Skate Shop Aims to be North Jersey Landmark

New store on Hudson Street in Ridgewood opened in March.

No need to huff it to the mall, skaters –– Underground Skate Shop in Ridgewood has it in stock.

"We want to be a landmark and destination for North Jersey skateboarders," said co-owner Clint Pires, 23. "I don't want to become a millionaire, I'm just trying to support the North Jersey skate scene."

The independent skate shop, which opened in March, features shoes, clothes, decks and all in between. Name brands include Addidas, Huff, Nike SB, Rook, Spitfire, Fade Royalty and others. Shoes run from $50 a pop and decks starting at around $50, with a complete setup costing around $100.

"We are more here for our customer service than anything. We want to give the customers a welcoming place, we want them to feel welcome when they come and thankful when they leave. We appreciate everything they do to support us."

The Ridgewood location is the shop's second storefront, following the Nutley opening a few years ago. Pires is connected to a Midland Park church organization, Solid Foundation of NJ, which opens the parking lot to skaters on Saturday.

"We figured if we can get close enought to that, you have a little skate park here in Ridgewood, Midland Park has the Solid Foundation...we wanted to stay in the heart of Bergen County to be close enough to the kids who supported us. It all fell into place really well and quick."

Underground Skate Shop is located at 43 Hudson Street. You can reach the shop at (201) 857-3000, follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
