Protest Against NJ Bear Hunt And Deer Hunt To be Held At Bergen County Fur Company

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The Animal Protection League of Bergen County will hold a protest at a local fur company to oppose impending black bear hunts in New Jersey and an ongoing deer hunt in Saddle River.

Hunters will be allowed to pursue black bears in New Jersey from Oct. 13-18 and Dec. 8-13, the League said, while Saddle River has authorized a deer cull that's currently ongoing.

The group has protested both hunts in the past, often in Bergen County.

"Governor Murphy has broad powers to issue executive orders," they said in a release. "In 2022 he used them to start a hunt in December. Now, he could use one to stop the hunts in 2025. He promised to end the bear hunt, but intentionally deceived the voters. Especially in light of the fact that the bear population is grossly inflated by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, to push for a bear hunt."

They added, "This will be Murphy’s legacy: 'Bear Killer Murphy.' "

They said that in Saddle River, "62 innocent precious souls, 19 antlered and 43 antler less were brutally slaughtered by bow hunters."

The verbiage mimicked Murphy's own language, often referring to deceased Garden State residents as "precious souls."

The protest will be held next weekend on Sept. 6, 1-2:15 p.m., rain or shine.

It will be held at Steven Corn/Maximilian Furs, 358 Route 17 North, Paramus.
