Pumpkin Incident, Parking Lot Fight: Glen Rock Blotter

GLEN ROCK, NJ - Police responded to 254 incidents between Oct. 28 and Nov. 3, including reports of a crash caused by an intoxicated driver, shoplifting at Bottle King Liquors and a dispute between two women over parking spots by Starbucks.

Oct. 29: Intoxicated Driver Arrested Following Crash

6:28 PM – While investigating a motor vehicle accident at Maple Avenue and Waldron Avenue, Sgt. Greg Carter arrested a 26-year-old Glen Rock man for driving while intoxicated. The man was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to the custody of a sober adult in accordance with John’s Law.

In addition to the DWI charge he was also issued summonses for failure to consent to the taking of breath samples and careless driving.

Nov. 1: Pumpkin Thrown Through Store Window

Just after 8AM, the owner of Bellezza Salon at 877 Prospect Street reported that someone had thrown a large pumpkin through the front window of the store. Across the street at Bergen News Plus at 890 Prospect Street, the owner reported a protective cover over the HVAC system at the rear of building was damaged along with the motor. Both incidents are reported to have occurred overnight.

Nov. 1: Home Struck By Tree

8:30 AM – Patrols, along with the Glen Rock Fire Department responded to a report of a home struck by a tree on the 200 block of Elmwood Avenue. Upon arrival they learned that the resident heard a loud boom around 1230 AM, however, she was not aware that the house had been struck by a tree until a neighbor called at 8:30 AM. The Fire Department determined that the structure was safe and secured the area until PSE&G could arrive on the scene to attend to the electrical service which had been compromised by the tree.

Nov. 1: Dispute Over Starbucks Parking Spots

6:31 PM – Patrols were dispatched in the area of Starbucks on Rock Road to investigate a dispute in progress. Upon arrival they found that two motorists, a 38-year-old Glen Rock woman and a 60-year-old woman also of Glen Rock, had been involved in a dispute over a parking space. It was determined that no physical confrontation or actual violation of the law occurred. Both parties were sent on their way without incident.

Nov. 2: NJ Transit Emergency Drill

7AM to 12 Noon – The Glen Rock Police Department, together with the NJ Transit Police Department, additional law enforcement agencies, Glen Rock Fire Department, Ambulance Corps and other first responders from throughout the region, conducted a training exercise at the NJT Main Line Station.

The focus of the emergency drill was an active shooter response as well as de-escalation tactics, followed by a mass casualty response drill with fire and EMS personnel.

As part of their emergency preparedness efforts, the New Jersey Transit Police Department regularly conducts multiple drills and exercises throughout the state in collaboration with local agencies. These realistic emergency drills serve to increase the safety of our first responders, our community, as well as the Transit system. The Glen Rock Police Department regularly works in cooperation with the Transit Police in responding to incidents affecting both the transit system as well as the Glen Rock community. Training of this nature is essential in preparing first responders to deal with the unique issues which are regularly encountered on and around the rail system.

Nov. 2: Shoplifting at Bottle King Liquors

12:36 PM – Officers were dispatched to a reported shoplifting at Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street. According to the store manager, a male subject took a bottle of single malt whiskey valued at $54.99 and left the store without paying. Video surveillance footage was provided by the manager and is currently being reviewed by detectives.
