'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro Opening a Bakery in Ridgewood

  • "A lot of people in the Upper Bergen County area are intimidated by the line on Washington St. [in Hoboken] and after looking at a few spots we chose Ridgewood as our second Carlo's Bakery location."

Popular television star Buddy Valastro of TLC's "Cake Boss" is opening his second Carlo's City Hall Bake Shop, planning on a November opening in Ridgewood. The new bakery will have a custom cake station and a party room.

  • "Howard allegedly grabbed the 7-year-old in a headlock and the 9-year-old by the shoulder and dragged them toward the train, [Ramsey Police Chief Brian] Gurney said."

A 48-year-old Wyckoff man is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly attempting to push two Glen Rock boys in front of a moving train at the Ramsey Station. The boys' mother and grandmother reportedly tackled David Howard. Police said Howard was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the alleged attack.

A well-liked carpenter and 2004 graduate of Ridgewood High School died Sept. 1 at the age of 26. Jeremy Cahill was remembered as a "decent, hardworking son, brother, friend and neighbor who would not hesitate to offer assistance in any endeavor."

Tree Crushes Ridgewood Home

  • The tree fell around 7 a.m. onto a house at the corner of Norman Drive and Hillcrest, splitting the roof and causing heavy damage.

Strong storm winds pushed an old Oak tree through a Hillcrest Road house, but the family fortunately was uninjured, though damage to the property was significant.

Large Mixed-Use Housing Project Planned at Ken Smith Site

  • "We only build...very high end products. I think the town [sic] will also find it's first-rate. Mike [Smith]'s been in Ridgewood a long, long time. We really do have a good concept."

One of many proposed housing developments in Ridgewood's downtown, a developer envisions an upscale 114-unit apartment complex at the site of now-shuttered Ken Smith Motors. They'll be presenting plans to the village this fall.

Patricia Little received a letter two days before the start of school informing her she would not be at Coleman for a 44th consecutive year. She believes the principal, Dawn Cappadona, targeted her because of her age and allegedly accused her of pushing a child.

Ridgewood Doctor Charged with DWI Following Telephone Pole Crashes

  • Both airbags of the new Honda CRV deployed and the front of the vehicle was found on the sidewalk, crumpled. The force of the impact split the pole at its base and pushed it several feet.

Victor Melt-Campos, 37, is facing numerous traffic citations after police say he was drunk when he slammed into a utility pole before hitting another one and suffering serious head injuries.

Firefighters Rescue Cats Following Kitchen Fire

  • "They were very supportive and responded quickly...the firemen did a great job getting them [the cats] to my wife. She was extraordinarily worried. They're OK."

The kitchen of a Grove Street home was destroyed after a stovetop fire, but the family of four and their two cats, Nikita and Louie made it out safely. An emotional family thanked Ridgewood's first responders for their professionalism and quick response.

Rony Alvarado says his Glen Rock burger joint likely won't make it to 2013 if more borough residents don't frequent the restaurant. With a "good product and moderate prices," Alvarado says he doesn't know why he's in a financial lurch.

Council Hesitant to Approve Memorial at 'The View' for Nick Campanello

  • "The grieving process will be easier for all of us. It will give us something tangible to look at, something to remind us of his warm smile...so that we never forget this wonderful person who passed through our lives far too quickly."

The Ridgewood Village Council worried about setting a precedent in allowing for a memorial to be placed at 'The View,' a lookout to New York City on Crest Road in memory of a popular Ridgewood High School student. Nick Campanello, 16, died of an asthma attack in August. The council said it will explore other options with the family.
