Environmentalists and others have held rallies where the power plant would go for months. They are concerned that they would "risk the health of our local communities and would be among the largest sources of climate destroying greenhouse gases in the region," Food & Water Watch said in a press release.
The plant's estimated 2.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions would tie it with the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery in Linden as the biggest producer of greenhouse gas in New Jersey, according to NorthJersey.com.
