Report: School Buses Half-Full in Ridgewood
Parents whose school-age children are eligible to take the bus but find other ways to school, have by and large not opted out of the service, saving taxpayers little.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, and while they go through some of the town there aren't many kids on them in Ridgewood.
According to a report on northjersey.com, Ridgewood annually spends $35,000 to $40,000 per bus and most are half full. A new law allows Ridgewood parents whose children live more than 2.5 miles away from the school to opt out, but few have.
Most bus-eligible students in Ridgewood live east of Route 17 or around Goffle Road; district officials speculated those who chose not to opt out likely did it for those just-in-case moments.
