The Ridgewood High School Marching Band left the field at Vernon High School Saturday night with a first place finish against regional competitors.
The weekend's competition was the band's second of the season. Last month the 93 students that comprise the band and color guard took second in their category at a competition in Pequannock.
Rush Hour, the band's musical journey through themes of New York City transportation, also swept special awards for best music, visual performance and overall effect.
"The band performed with a lot of energy," band director John Luckenbill said after the performance. "They really had a lot of fun tonight."
The first place finish came ahead of competing high schools in Sparta, Kittatinny and Mahwah.
The band heads to the state championships Saturday at Rutgers University.
