Ridgewood Cops Rewarding Kids Who Wear Helmets

Kids who police see properly wearing a helmet while riding a bike, skateboard, or roller skates will get a free ice cream from Van Dyk's.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The police department is offering a sweet treat to children who take safety serious.

Children police see properly wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle, skateboard, or roller skates will be given a certificate good for a free ice cream cone at Van Dyk's Homemade Ice Cream.

The program will be in effect until all certificates are handed out.

New Jersey's helmet law requires that bike, skateboard, or who uses roller skates 17 years old and younger must wear a helmet.
