Ridgewood Kicker Named Special Teams Player Of The Year

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A SUNY Cortland kicker, of Ridgewood, was chosen as the Empire 8 conference's Special Teams Player of the Year and Cortland's first-team, all-conference kicker in the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Junior kicker/punter Patrick Luby was one of 11 Cortland players to earn a spot on the all-league first team and garner an all-conference first-team accolade, sources said.

The 6-foot, 200-pound kicker averaged 61.9 yards per kickoff with 34 touchbacks. He also averaged 36.2 yards per punt, with five placed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

"Luby has excelled as both a kicker and punter for the Red Dragons in 2022," Empire 8 said in a news release.

A 2019 graduate of Ridgewood High School, Luby was a two-year starter in football. His team won the state title his senior year, his player bio said.

Cortland finished the 2022 regular season with a 9-0 record, including a 6-0 mark to repeat as Empire 8 champion, and earn an automatic berth into the Division III playoffs.
