Ridgewood Kids Make Valentines For Veterans: Photos

Is your Valentine's Day valentine a veteran? Ridgewood kids showed love to those who fought for freedom.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — They risked their lives for freedom, and now they're being shown a little love.

Students from Orchard Elementary, Somerville Elementary, and Willard Elementary Schools in Ridgewood joined Rep. Josh Gottheimer's initiative last week to express their gratitude those who've served in America's armed forces.

They participated in through the Fifth District’s Annual Valentines for Veterans program.

"To show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans, the students have been busy creating handmade Valentine's Day cards filled with messages of thanks and admiration," said a release.

"Our veterans have given so much to protect our country, and it's important that we teach our children the value of honoring their service," said Orchard Elementary principal Mary Ferreri. "The heartfelt Valentines created by the students will surely bring smiles to the faces of our veterans."

The handmade Valentines were collected by Gottheimer's office to distribute to veterans.
