RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of a former Ridgewood High School football player who died unexpectedly last week at 18.

Preston Stott passed away Tuesday.

"We have created this GoFundMe in an effort to alleviate the burden of expenses that Jessica will incur," wrote friends of Preston's mother, on the GoFundMe. "We are asking Ridgewood to do what it does best: to rally around one of its own in a time of crisis. Please consider donating to this fund in support of Jessica and [brother] Quinn."

Stott's obituary says, "Preston was a determined, passionate and hardworking young man whose work ethic was unmatched. He held numerous jobs since the age of 14, and his diligence allowed him to buy his own car for his 17th birthday: a tinted out, diesel-powered, A3 wagon, affectionately known as R2D2. Preston was surrounded by the most amazing and loyal friends."

It noted, "For Preston, a perfect day would involve waking up and having a cuddle with his two dogs, Charlie and Dee, engaging in a long hug - with both arms - with his mom Jes, and sending off the funniest memes and reels in the family thread."

A wake was held Friday, and the football team — who were mourning Stott as well as a player's mother who also passed away last week — won their game that night, the Record of Hackensack noted.

The obituary encouraged mourners to donate to Ridgewood Social Services or to the GoFundMe.
