Ridgewood Parents Revive 'Stop, Look, Wave' Initiative
The safety campaign reminds pedestrians to be mindful of what is going on around them, especially at busy intersections.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Parents are reviving the "Stop, Look, Wave: Be Safe Be Seen" pedestrian safety campaign.
The initiative's purpose is to remind pedestrians crossing dangerous intersections to stop, look, and wave to drivers before entering a crosswalk. The initiative was originally launched in 2012.
Too often, parents said, pedestrians assume that drivers see them, when that always is not the case. The initiative kicks off this month, which is also Walk To School Month, an international campaign that encourages children to walk and bike to school.

Organizers hope that pedestrians take a few extra seconds to look both ways before crossing the street and to acknowledge they see drivers with a wave.
Car magnets will be made available to residents to remind pedestrians in Ridgewood and nearby communities.
