Ridgewood Police Investigate Tire Slashings

Tires on at least eight vehicles, including one police car, were slashed, authorities said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ - Tires on at least eight vehicles in Ridgewood, including one police car, were slashed Saturday evening, according to authorities.

According to Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke, the incidents remain under investigation and were reported on the east side of the village, on South Pleasant Avenue, Jemco Place, Amsterdam Avenue and Spring Avenue.

  • Park your vehicles in an area that is either well lit or has motion lights.
  • Do not park your vehicles on the street over night, as it is not only against the ordinance, but easier to break into or vandalize.
  • Park your vehicles closer to your house than the street when possible.
  • If you have a camera system make sure one is pointed near your vehicle.
  • Timers on house lights also give the appearance of someone being home.
  • Always lock your vehicles and bring the keys inside with you.

Police are also urging residents to contact headquarters at 201-652-3900 if they spot anything suspicious.
