RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Robert Najlis is not a traditional oil painter.

Najlis' artwork is augmented by sound and algorithmic compositions. He wants viewers to literally feel his art.

Najlis, a village native and a Master of Fine Arts student at UMass Dartmouth, was awarded a Fulbright Research Scholarship. For his scholarship research, Najlis will travel to the China Academy of Art to study painting and calligraphy.

His research will examine the theories of the artwork of the Song dynasty and how it integrated painting, poetry, and calligraphy.

Najlis will share what he knows of Western painting, collaborate with other artists, and give talks and exhibitions.
