Ridgewood Teen Blows Tire, Keeps Driving On Highway: Police

The teen was driving 20 miles per hour while driving on a rim without any tire, police said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Ridgewood teenager was charged with multiple offenses after he blew a tire on Route 208 and stopped at Garden State Plaza recently, police reported.

Police saw the teen driving erratically near Maple Avenue and Harristown Road at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, said Chief Dean Ackermann.

The driver, a 17-year-old, got onto Route 208 South where he struck curbs and blew out a tire, going about 20 miles per hour, Ackermann said.

Glen Rock and Paramus police officers eventually stopped the driver in the Garden State Plaza parking lot, Ackermann said.

The driver was charged on a juvenile delinquency complaint with eluding police with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. He was also issued several motor vehicle summonses, includes reckless driving and driving without a license, the chief said.

The Paramus Police Department also filed charges against the driver. One of their police vehicles was damaged and the driver committed other violations.

The teenager was released to his mother pending a appearance in juvenile court.
