Ridgewood's Valley Health Pledges To Reduce Emissions By 50% By 2030

A regional healthcare system headquartered in Ridgewood pledged to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Valley Health System, which is headquartered in Ridgewood and includes Ridgewood's Valley Hospital, has pledged to, at minimum, reduce organizational emissions by 50% by 2030, and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Joining over 800 hospitals and thousands of other organizations across the country, Valley signed the Health Care Sector Climate Pledge to also publicly report on progress, designate an executive-level lead for the work, inventory supply chain emissions by the end of 2024, and develop a climate resilience plan by the end of 2023.

“We are proud and delighted to join this pledge," Audrey Meyers, President and CEO of Valley Health System, said. “Valley has pledged to lowering greenhouse gas emissions, building more climate resilient infrastructure, and more."

Developed by the federal health department and the Biden administration, the initiative would, if successful, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve the environment, and respond to climate challenges, Valley Health said in a news release.

In addition to reducing its carbon footprint, Valley will also produce a plan to prepare for and address the impacts of climate change — all representing the regional healthcare system's "longstanding commitment to sustainability," the news release said.
